      @@granat4659 depends on the paint really, and it can vary from pot to pot and batch to batch. Best way to go is to mix it by eye, until the paint has the consistency of semi skimmed milk. You can use this as a start point, and then make slight variations if needed :) I should also mention that the rules for what thinner to use can change between manufacturer, for example tamiya acrylics cannot be thinned with water, and instead must be thinned with either isopropyl alcohol or lacquer thinners (due to their complex formulation). This is just a side note however, and Humbrol acrylics will work fine with water - just thought I'd point this out if you ever fancy trying out some other brands :)

    David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Tuesday, 25 June, 2024). Well, for your intriguing construction of Airfix’s 1:24th-scale kit of the renowned Spitfire Mk. IXc RAF Fighter, I must say, what a masterful synthesis of the various, combined skills that is model-building, the twenty-first century’s merging of artistry, artisanship, craftwork, and technology! So elegantly æsthetic and technically proficient is your handiwork that I must wonder: had you in a previous life been one of the great masters with brushes and oils upon canvas? Or, alternately, had you eighty-odd years past been a pilot of a de Havilland DH-98 Mosquito RAF fighter-bomber, who each midnight doggedly harried the scheming, obsidian-hard, black-hearted. black-garbed Gestapo and their snarling, snapping, baying Sturmstaffel attack hounds that by day cowered in their clammy, fœtid subterranean den of exploiters and sadists deep within the bowels of war-torn Berlin? You refer obliquely to your next project, giving no specifics. I propose that you at your next opportunity commence with the Airfix 1:24th-scale kit of the amazing Wooden Wonder, the Mosquito RAF light bomber. I suggest this first for its own merits, for it and its determined, doughty crews deserve such recognition as your excellent œuvres could bring. Yet also, since I had read about two extraordinary anecdotes of them that merit due recognition: at the very outset of D-Day, 6 June, 1944, scores of them had flown close air support air strikes directly to aid the Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery (had His Majesty, the King yet knighted him? Or had that been several years on, at the hand of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II?) and his uncounted thousands of hardy warriors even then just arriving to set free a war-weary Europe. Another highly dramatic account had told of a hundred or more of these unarmed airborne Pegasi in early 1944, in a relentless campaign of thirty-eight days, swiftly had penetrated deep into that horizontal abyss unto increasingly grotesque totalitarianism, repeatedly striking key government and military objectives well within the grimy, corrupt heart of Berlin itself in the RAF’s offensive to disrupt the decadent Nazi regime’s sordid scheme to impose upon the sovereign nations of Europe its malevolent totalitarianism.

    Cool video! But the kit is again kinda disapointing. Airfix showed us with some of their new kits what they are capable of and yet we get a half baked kit aimed for new builders and nobody elese. Dont get me wrong it looks very good especialy with the one piece cabin, but the lack of detail inside the cabin and overall is disapointing. I was thinking about getting this kit since i dont build ships and this is a simle small boat in big scale but it being a starter set and probably overpriced where I live its a pass. Same with their F-35. Loved the stand but thats about it. Italeri did a better job far before them.

    • @ModellingWeekly
      @ModellingWeekly 6 днів тому

      Totally get what you mean, the detail in some aspects of the kit is heavily limited by the fact it's a starter kit which is pretty frustrating. Its fantastic that they are doing it as a starter set to bring new people into the hobby, but at the same time it is a bit annoying for more experienced modellers! Hopefully they bring out a high - detail version of the kit at some point in the future

      @@lukasz_p_ One would indeed think that, but the price of a decal sheet from cartograf is not cheap - decals often make up the majority of the costs of a model kit for the manufacturer. Airfix reported that they're making a tiny margin on these decals, and more than anything they're selling them purely to give modellers more options. Sure, they could have included nameplates and numbers for a few more lifeboats in the starter set, but you'd then only be pleasing a handful more people than you were before. They could have added the entire extra sheet as part of the kit, but that would have raised the kit price to outside of what is considered the "starter set" price range Tl;dr - I know exactly what you mean and I totally get it, but just explaining what Airfix's stance on it is 👍

    First off thanks for this honest review. You echo my sentiments exactly. I own 2 Gaahleri airbrushes, a number of cheap chinese knock-offs, a couple of Iwatas, Procon Boys, Badgers and H&S. Pretty soon I'llhave more airbrushes than kits in my stash LOL. I purchased the GHAD-39 a while back, and more recently I purchased the Mobius 0.3. With the GHAD-39 I find it equivelent to my Fengda-183K which was a few dollars cheaper and included more extras in the box. The GHAD-39 has better seals though. If I were to do it again, I would have skipped the GHAD-39 and just stuck with the Fenga as parts are readily available for it and it was so cheap it doesn't matter if it dies on me. I later purchased the Mobius 0.3 model based on UA-cam reviews. The closest thing I have to compare in price is my Iwata Revolution which I paid $75 for or my Patriot 105 which I paid $70 for. While the Mobius is well built and has some nice features for me it always comes down to trigger control. On the cheaper airbrushes this is where you can really tell the difference. Cheap airbrushes, and I am including Gaahleri as a cheap airbrush, just cannot match the control you get with the German or Japanese airbrushes. With a good airbrush you get consistent airflow and paint flow when you pull the trigger back. What I mean is that if I depress the trigger a certain amount, I will always get the same amount of air. When I pull back on the trigger, the paint will spray the same way at the same amount of trigger pull each time. This way I can be confident that when I pull the trigger back say half way, it will always spray the same amount of paint. With the cheaper airbrushes (this one included), when you first pull back, nothing comes out, then all of a sudden you hit the point where paint starts to flow, but it is not consistent. I just don't feel as confident with this airbrush as I do with the revolution or any of my other name brand brushes. If you are just starting out, it is tempting to buy the cheapest brush you can find. I would say spend a little bit more and buy something like an Iwata, H&S or even a Badger. The control will go a long way to giving you the confidence you need to stick with the hobby and improve your skills. I like what Gaahleri is doing. If they can last, they will give price pressure to the name brands. I like the chrome plating in the cups, and their presentation (especially the parts diagram in the box lid). I like that they are getting creative with the styling of the brush. If they can improve the trigger control, then the big name brands will have something to worry about.

    Nice video, but content creators shouldn’t have to be making videos like this in the first place. All Eduard have done is create extra work that I didn’t have to do before, they’ve also increased the risk/likleyhood that I’ll ruin my paint job, all for something that offers no tangible gain or reward (imho). If it’s a cost saving they’re after, I’m skeptical if it’ll pay off, as I personally have come away (not completely) from Eduard kits due to the fact I’m spending additional funds on aftermarket decals. Nothing against trying new things, but not at the expense of my time and wallet.

    The propeller blade was wooden ... so congratulation for research and knowledge about Spitfire.

    • @ModellingWeekly
      @ModellingWeekly 18 днів тому

      The four bladed prop was duralumin at later points in the war 😊 the birch laminate props also had a metal mesh-like material around the outside as well, so this could even cause the effect of metal chipping in some wooden props 👍

      on the early versions maybe…

    • @nolhrt
      @nolhrt 17 днів тому

      It is likely that the version you modelled was Hydulignum, as in wood. In any case metallic chipping is inappropriate on front of a propellor except at the leading edge even on metal propellors. There was a brass sheath on the leading edges of the blades which often became visible. Any damage would be at the rear of the propellor as often seen on aircraft operating out of desert strips and coral airfields. It's a common mistake. Check out photos of Spitfire propellors online. I offer this, not as criticism but a tip. You have excellent skills. Also the red crowbar is post war.

    Hi. Im using Tamiya acrylics with xf-86 matt varnish, then decals and oil washes, then x-22 gloss varnish for finish. I know Tamiya have X-35 semi-gloss but didnt tried yet, they dont have satin tho. Do you know any satin varnish for airbrush that would be a good replacement for matt coat to ease removing excessive oil?. For Tamiya paints and varnish im using X-20A thinner, i know some people are prefering Leveling Thinner.

    • @ModellingWeekly
      @ModellingWeekly 17 днів тому

      For tamiya acrylics x-20a is perfectly fine if that's what you've got 👍 Mr levelling thinner is great, and so is tamiya retarder lacquer thinner, but it's not mandatory. In terms of satin varnishes, tamiya does do an acrylic one - X-35, but they call it semi gloss instead of satin :)

    whenever i read the words "full build" i always prepare myself for a boring, bland, out of the box creation, often with striking errors. Clearly this is not the case here. You have a good grasp of modelling techniques, but more important, the model looks fairly real. Realism over artistic license, especially with weathering is a tricky balance to keep and you did it exceptionally well. The large scale helps, but still! congrats!

    Outstanding build and point job. I will have to put this kit on my list. Just one thing (from a Spitfire nerd), the crowbar was interior green or bare metal throughout the war. Only restored aircraft have them painted red. Re the comments below on propellers: blades on the Rotol 3 blade props were manufactured by Jablo and were a wood composite with a hard metal mesh sheet and cellulose coating were pressed onto the outside of the blade; so some metal may have shown through with wear - a distinctive pattern can certainly be seen on some prop leading edges (I believe that there may also have been a brass protection strip applied to the leading edge). I have read that the four bladed Rotol props reintroduced duralumin blades. DH props I think all had duralumin blades.

    I have Burned & raw Umber for dark browns & Burnt & raw Siana for light browns. I all so got Ivory black which is more of a dark grey than black. I have always been a fan of Vallejo's washes for panel lines, but oils just offer more control & easy clean-ups.
